SPICE JAR’S NEWEST SINGLE “AGAIN” FILLS A TITLE FIGHT-SIZED HOLE IN OUR HEARTS

The spirit of DIY endures with each new artist that emerges. Now, Spice Jar takes notes from artists like Title Fight, whose grandiose, distorted builds and signature sounds helped shape a generation. Their newest single, “Again,” suggests that DIY is akin to a cat, perhaps with more than nine lives.

Lyrically, the song’s hook represents the genre’s ethos: “it’s okay not to be okay sometimes.” This mantra resonates loudly and truly enough to tug at the hearts of fans worldwide. Still, it does its job without being cheesy—it’s incredible how many times this sentiment can be shared in music while remaining fresh and exciting for audiences.

Sonically, the track similarly reinvigorates audiences who may already be familiar enough with DIY to think they have heard it all. I occasionally review with a bit of a chip on my shoulder. DIY runs through my veins, and it encompasses everything I do. However, now and then, artists like Spice Jar get me excited for its future thanks to their stunningly daring creative choices.

As they say, pop-punk is not dead, and Spice Jar proves this phenomenon to be true. Their single, “Again,” lends a comforting shoulder to lean on for anyone who may be going through a tough time. Let’s face it, with the state of the world, most of us are going through it! However, music acts as a universal language and a form of medicine, with “Again” providing respite for many listeners, including myself.
