PUP CONTINUES THEIR ALBUM ROLLOUT WITH DELICIOUS NEW SINGLE “OLIVE GARDEN”

Canadian (midwest?) emo group PUP have been unveiling their highly-anticipated forthcoming album, ‘Who Will Look After The Dogs?’ since early this year. The singles have been met with mostly praise, and deservedly so. The group’s soundscape is built upon a solid foundation with familiar and innovative creative choices taking center stage. Their latest effort, “Olive Garden,” balances humor with emotional intimacy.

As my late hispanic grandmother would call it, “Olibe Garden” offers more than a surplus of parmesan cheese. Many of us, myself included, don’t quite know when to say “when.” Ironically, the single touches on both of these things, navigating complex relationship dynamics lightheartedly coping with the chain restaurant as both a device and mechansim. I, too, have suffered from saying the wrong thing at the wrong time because I ruminated in a feeling for too long.

Sonically, the distorted guitars mirror the feelings of anxiety that arise in these social landscapes. Somehow, PUP has made a track that sounds like word vomit, even within its instrumentation. Some may consider the distortion to be over the top—but not me. It blends in perfectly with the song’s overall core message.

Of course, the PUP record is set to be one of the best releases of 2025, earning their hype and then some. PUP consistently outdoes themselves, simply by writing what they feel, whether they narrate a past situation or current frustrations. “Olive Garden” is both emotionally harrowing and ridiculously catchy.
