CHEEKFACE GET WEIRD AGAIN ON “BLACK SITE” AND ANNOUNCE NEW LP PODIUM

Los Angeles indie standouts Cheekface return with “Black Site,” a new single that leans into their signature mix of dry humor and tightly wound indie rock.

Driven by wiry guitars and a steady, stripped-back rhythm section, the track gives frontman Greg Katz plenty of space to deliver his talk-sung lines with precision. The standout hook, “I got soul, but I’m not Korea, Korea, Korea,” lands as both absurd and oddly catchy, a perfect snapshot of the band’s offbeat charm. It also feels like a wink to The Killers’ “I got soul, but I’m not a soldier,” though whether that’s intentional or not, it sticks.

The video leans fully into that same absurdity. Set inside a makeshift prison with the band in orange jumpsuits, it looks like it was shot on a 1999 VHS camcorder, complete with a grainy, blown-out aesthetic. It’s packed with frantic, completely uninvited edits that feel almost unwarranted at times, but somehow that chaos ends up working in its favor. The clip was shot and edited by Mallory Turner, and the lyrics run along the bottom of the screen the entire time, which somehow makes it even better.

“Black Site” is the latest preview of the band’s upcoming album Podium, their sixth full-length, set for release on July 28. The rollout suggests Cheekface is sticking to what they do best while continuing to sharpen the edges. Click HERE to pre-order!
