SAVE FERRIS FACE FAN BACKLASH OVER AI-GENERATED MERCH DESIGN

Save Ferris is catching heat this week after rolling out a new line of merch that fans believe was created using AI.

The band recently posted a new shirt design featuring a stacked speaker graphic with the phrase “NO DIVISION ONLY MUSIC.” Not long after, fans began asking a simple question in the comments: who made the artwork?

Adding to the conversation, the Instagram post includes a small “AI info” label above the image, indicating that AI was used to create the post.

Multiple commenters pointed out that no artist was credited, while others questioned the use of AI in place of a human designer. Some also claimed their comments asking about the artist were being removed, which only added to the confusion.

As of 10 am this morning, the band has disabled comments on the merch posts in question.

The response leading up to that point was mixed but noticeably critical. Some fans called the design “AI slop,” while others said they were disappointed to see a band they’ve supported for years take this route. A few took it further, saying they would no longer support the merch.

At the same time, the band has promoted the shirt as a strong seller, noting that it became their “best-selling” item shortly after it launched for pre-order.

This also comes at a time when the band has already been part of a broader conversation within the scene. Save Ferris recently performed at the OC SuperShow, organized by the same promoter behind the now-canceled Punk in the Park, which faced backlash over reported ties to donations supporting MAGA. That situation drew its own wave of criticism and put additional attention on bands associated with the event.

Save Ferris has not publicly addressed the concerns about artist credit, comment moderation, the decision to disable comments, or the use of AI in their merch design.
