THERE IS NOTHING SOOTHING ABOUT THE NEW CRANKED TRACK “SEDATIVE”

Four Northeast metal and hardcore vets coming together as Cranked was never going to sound polite. The result is dark, heavy, and way more layered than you’d expect at first listen. On their latest single, “Sedative,” they don’t rush anything. They let it build, then slowly cave your face in with it.

“Sedative” drags you through the mud in the best way. It’s slow and punishing, loaded with low-end that feels like it’s coming from underground, with guitars that grind instead of glide. The vocals bounce between full-on screams and this eerie, almost spoken delivery that keeps things unsettling the whole way through. It feels less like a song and more like getting stuck inside it. Big riffs, sticky hooks, and just enough sludge to keep it nasty.

Despite the title, there’s nothing calming about it. When Cranked says “everything feels quiet now,” it hits more like that eerie calm-before-the-wreck kind of quiet. The tension never really lets up.

With “Sedative,” Cranked double down on what they are. Hardcore, but with that Northeast grit baked in. Think Terror, Speed, and High on Fire slowed down just enough to feel heavier than they should.

If this is how they’re starting things off, 2026 might be theirs for the taking.
