MELVINS & NAPALM DEATH FORM SAVAGE IMPERIAL DEATH MARCH, ALBUM OUT APRIL 10

Two of heavy music’s most uncompromising forces have collided. Melvins and Napalm Death have joined forces to form a hybrid project titled Savage Imperial Death March, with a new album set for release April 10 via Ipecac Recordings.

The name alone suggests something massive and unrelenting, and considering the pedigree involved, expectations are understandably high. Melvins have long been pioneers of sludge and experimental heaviness, while Napalm Death remain one of grindcore’s most politically charged and sonically extreme institutions. Together, the pairing feels less like a casual collaboration and more like a calculated detonation.

Details surrounding the album’s sound are still emerging, but the prospect of combining Melvins’ lumbering, oppressive groove with Napalm Death’s speed, precision, and fury opens up serious possibilities. This isn’t a stylistic stretch for either band. Both have built careers on pushing boundaries and dismantling expectations, making Savage Imperial Death March feel like a natural extension of their shared ethos.

With the album arriving April 10 via Ipecac Recordings, the project stands as one of the most intriguing heavy releases on the horizon. When two bands known for reshaping extreme music decide to merge, it’s not just a side project. It’s an event.
