THIEF DROPS HAUNTING NEW SINGLE “MOON AND KILL”
Thief is the dark electronic project of musical mastermind Dylan Neal, a shape-shifting collision of electronica, noise rock, post-metal and even samples of centuries-old baroque music. The result is a sound that feels dark, distinctive and utterly captivating. And if the project’s new single “Moon and Kill” is any indication, Thief’s upcoming album, Sermons From The Pit, is going to be an absolute monster.
“Moon and Kill” wastes little time pulling you into its strange and sinister world. Pulsating hi-hats and stuttering kick drums propel the track forward as walls of droning guitars and sheer noise begin crashing through the mix. Above it all, Neal’s vocals can shift from eerily foreboding to vicious, throat-shredding screams at the drop of a hat.
It’s dense, abrasive, and deliberately overwhelming, but Thief never lets the noise swallow the song itself.
After wave upon wave of intense pummeling, “Moon and Kill” slowly eases off the gas, allowing a haunting synth melody to creep into the mix. The transition feels almost like breaking through the surface after being held underwater, offering a brief moment of clarity before the song’s gargantuan chorus takes over.
