NEW ZEALAND'S TABLEFOX EMBRACES THEIR CULTURE WITH NEW SINGLE "BATTLES"
Tablefox's new single "Battles" is everything you want from an alt-rock band. Ambient guitar pocketed drums, and open vocal lines make for a sonically pleasing treat. "Battles" is the band's fourth single off their forthcoming album "IV", following the success of their previous single "Desire Or Love" which reached #3 on the Official NZ Rock charts.
"'Battles' is about the relationship with my heritage", says songwriter Clinton. "As a person with both European and Maori ties, I would often feel uncomfortable in situations. When I was younger Maori were often portrayed in a negative way in the media, on TV, and around the dinner table. Often I would have to take sides and it was easier for me to conform. This is about my awakening to a culture with a rich positive history and my journey to embrace it".
With lyrics like, "I'm a rebel without a clue/ I will open up my heart/ To the battles that go on"... "We suffer just like fools/ We try to change the rules/ I see that in you"...we feel the tension at that dinner table. We clench our fists with the frustration one must feel when experiencing negative media toward a people and their culture. We build a fire in our hearts to fight for justice in a world that is riddled with quiet, stealthy, and plentiful injustice. Tablefox is battle-ready. Tablefox is battle born. Break the frustration, break the tension-- be steadfast in embracing your own journey.
