KING OF FOXES ASSERTS THAT THEY ALWAYS ATTRACT “BAD NEWS” IN ELECTRIC NEW SINGLE
Let’s face it—we all love a good bad boy. Or bad…they. Regardless, there is something irresistible about people who don’t seem to have it together in an effortlessly cool way. King of Foxes jests about their questionable taste in partners throughout their new, electric-guitar driven single, “Bad News.”
The self-aware track suggests that the band understands their partner makes irresponsible decisions. They “forget to buy milk,” but they “got history.” King of Foxes’ narration is irreverent and cheeky, poking fun at stereotypes while admitting to thriving because of them. Their descriptions of their partner are occasionally hilarious; even their mom warns the singer to step away.
Sonically, the track satisfies the ears from beginning to end. A silky smooth lead vocal glides effortlessly over distorted electric guitar. Surprisingly, the band is from Canada; I would have thought, based on the singer’s accent alone, that they were from the American West. From experience, there is a striking country-rock scene in Canada. My family introduced me to it long ago, and I’m glad to be reintroduced thanks to King of Foxes.
“Bad News” not only explores complex relationship dynamics, but it does so with humor. Music often takes itself too seriously; King of Foxes balances humor and honesty perfectly well in “Bad News.” The group has an inherent chemistry that allows for the right lyrics to stand out while keeping the instrumental easily recognizable.
