TAME IMPALA RETURNS WITH FUNK-INFUSED NEW SINGLE “LOSER”

Tame Impala has returned with a brand-new single titled “Loser”, released on September 3, 2025, via Columbia Records. The track arrives just weeks after Kevin Parker dropped “End of Summer,” his sprawling, house-driven comeback single, marking a clear signal that a new chapter for the project is underway.

The accompanying video for “Loser” stars actor-musician Joe Keery—best known for his role as Steve Harrington in Stranger Things and his own music career as Djo. Directed by Sam Kristofski, the video captures Keery as a man caught in the throes of post-breakup melancholy, wandering through a Los Angeles convenience store, buying a drink, and quietly unraveling in its parking lot. In a surreal moment, Parker himself briefly appears, mirroring Keery’s look and demeanor before letting out a single, defeated “fuck.” The scene, though simple, captures the weary humor and emotional sting of the song’s title.

Musically, “Loser” leans into Parker’s psych-pop roots while weaving in a heavy dose of funk. Built around a sticky guitar riff and a deep, rolling bassline, the track trades the euphoric dance pulse of “End of Summer” for something grittier, looser, and more groove-driven. Parker’s trademark falsetto floats over the instrumentation, reflective and resigned, bringing a bittersweet edge to the otherwise infectious rhythm.

The release has already sparked conversation among fans online, with some praising its throwback funkiness and others noting its raw, unpolished feel compared to Parker’s more meticulous past work. Either way, “Loser” proves that more than a decade into Tame Impala’s career, Parker still knows how to disorient and surprise his listeners.

Though there’s no official confirmation of a new full-length album, the quick succession of “End of Summer” and “Loser” suggests that something larger may be on the horizon. Parker has recently hinted at new material on social media, sharing glimpses of studio work and teasing that he’s been “busy.” If these two singles are any indication, fans could be in for one of the most eclectic and adventurous eras of Tame Impala yet.

With “Loser,” Kevin Parker once again proves his ability to wrap emotional vulnerability inside irresistible grooves. Funky, psychedelic, and deceptively catchy, the track is both a continuation of his sonic evolution and a reminder of why Tame Impala remains one of the most innovative voices in modern music.
