DARK DIVINE’S SHALLOW GRAVES TOUR BURIES CHICAGO’S BOTTOM LOUNGE
Welcome back to another edition of the Get Some Magazine party bus! We’re back, baby, and what a show to start out on! Dark Divine’s first headliner, the Shallow Graves tour, made its stop in Chicago Sunday night with Thriller Records label mates, Not Enough Space and Set for Tomorrow. Throw in local opener Wolf Rd., and you have a mix of epic music that kept the crowd jumping on this cold Chicago evening. So, let’s get to it!
WOLF RD.
We opened the night with the local Chicago band Wolf Rd. We heard so much about this band, and with this being the first time covering them, they did not disappoint. You can tell this band has its “roots deep in Chicago’s vibrant pop-punk scene”. As every opener should, Wolf Rd. got us all jumping with their opening song, “The Ides of March,” and kept it going through the whole set with their high energy and catchy melodies. I will say this band has the professionalism and stage presence of some of the hometown bands like Fall Out Boy and Rise Against. This band pushes the envelope and exceeds all expectations. This is a definite, much-needed checkout band live or stream them, you won’t be disappointed. Notable songs in this set include, “Dogwood”, “Eye for an Eye”, and “Burn All Bridges”.
SET FOR TOMORROW
Another first see for us was Set for Tomorrow, and again, another band that did not disappoint. Set for Tomorrow got the crowd moving with their opening song, “Bad Advice”. The band “hammered” it hard through the whole set; song after song was a continuous left-and-right barrage of hooks that could take a heavyweight champ down. This is definitely another band that pushes hard with their hardcore/metalcore mix. The stage presence of this band is insane, full of energy that feeds the crowd's desire for more. Jump in the pit during this band, you won’t be disappointed! Other notable songs in the set list were “Ctrl”, “Like Murder”, and “Love Me Not”.
NOT ENOUGH SPACE
There’s so much to say about this band, and I only have so many words to use (lol). I’ve been following the band since its early beginnings, and the strides they have made are epic. This wasn’t baby strides; these were “We’re kicking the door in, and here we are strides”. They opened their setup with “Weaponize Your Rage,” and it was game on for those in the mosh pit. Singers Liv and Lizzie are pure evil on stage; they suck you in with clean vocals that are hypnotizing like a welcoming hug, and then we get to the chaotic evil, dirty lows, and screams that “bitch slap” you. You never know when and who it’s coming from, and that’s what makes the band a force to be reckoned with. As a whole, Not Enough Space can throw down with the best out there. There’s so much energy with NES on stage that you can’t just throw down with them. Pits went hard throughout their set; the band brought the energy, and the crowd ate it up. Notable songs in the set were “Devil Left Me on Read”, “Don’t Let Go”, “Kill, Eat, Repeat”, and “No Way Out”.
DARK DIVINE
Opening the set up with one of their newer songs “Halloweentown II: Welcome Home”, the fans were on the throttle right along with the band. Dark Divine gave us some new songs with “Midnight Masquerade” and “Permanent.. Chicago brought their singing voices and dancing shoes, as everyone in the house sang or moshed the entire set. The guys brought some epic energy with this set, from front to back this set list had something for everyone to enjoy, and Chicago gave it back to them. Other songs in the set list were “Make Me Disappear”, “Better Start Digging”, “Hive Mind”, and “Halloweentown”.
The boys have been making large waves for a while. Touring with top-tier bands like Ice Nine Kills, Black Veil Brides, and Crown the Empire, making festival runs, and now becoming a top-tier headliner themselves. Another band we have been with since their early beginnings, it’s like watching your kids grow up and do great things. Proud is an understatement for this band; I would say ecstatic is more like it. This show had a whole different emotional feel to it for Dark Divine. New music is out now, there are still a few dates left on this tour so get your butts out there before they sell out more shows and you miss your opportunity. It’s been a while, but we knocked the rust off with this show, so we’ll catch you on the next one peeps.
