CAPTURE THIS UNLEASHES ANTHEMIC POP-PUNK SINGLE “SHOULDN’T BE…”

There’s something infectious about a solid pop-punk hook. Capture This encapsulates this energy vividly; their gritty rhythm guitar complements an ooey-gooey smooth lead vocal perfectly. After climbing the subgenre’s ranks, Capture This has found its place within the scene. Their newest single, “Shoudn’t Be…,” is a multilayered reflection of personal and creative growth.

The beginning of the track is rather unassuming; however, don’t let this fool you. Once it picks up the pace a bit, the single gains momentum through more than just a few nicely placed crescendos. The lead vocal is familiar yet intriguing; it’s a hearty combination of Revelry’s signature style, paired with Honey Revenge’s poppier clarity. Capture This would also pair well with Daisy Grenade on a bill. Honestly, those four together would be an ambitious tour — one that blends generations of pop-punk fans into one, sweaty room.

“Shouldn’t Be…” offers more than catchy hooks and strong guitar riffs, though. Its core messaging is what makes it truly fascinating as a piece of music. Sure, it’s a breakup song, but its perspective is far more about self-empowerment from within, without being entirely too cheesy along the way.

While the narrator is understandably jaded after an unsavory romantic experience, she seemingly does convince herself that it will be okay after some time.

Essentially, “Shoudn’t Be…” reiterates the idea that it’s better to be “alone” than with the wrong person. Capture This is off to an incredible start, and the single stands as a highlight of the band’s EP Tangled, which dropped on August 27th.
