ASAVA'S "SAVEYOURSELF" IS THE FUTURE OF VISUAL STORYTELLING IN METAL
Not many bands have the talent to excel in one artistic medium, let alone two. ASAVA continues to blur the line between music and filmmaking with their latest single, "Saveyourself," proving they're just as compelling behind the camera as they are behind their instruments. By combining a passion for cinematic storytelling with modern alternative metal, the Ohio five-piece have created something that feels far more ambitious than your average music video.
"Saveyourself" is the third installment in the band's ongoing film series, How Long Is Forever? The story follows two detectives, portrayed by ASAVA members, as they investigate a person's disappearance. Think True Detective with a haunting djent-infused soundtrack. Episodes one and two were built around the band's previous singles, "Rue" and "Leigh," but "Saveyourself" marks a creative shift. Rather than writing a song first and building visuals around it, the band composed the track specifically for Episode 3, allowing the music and narrative to evolve together from the ground up.

The song itself unfolds like a short film. Its first half is dark, atmospheric, and emotionally unsettling before exploding into a crushing second act. Sonically, it lands somewhere between the cinematic weight of Sleep Token and Bad Omens, while borrowing the emotional intensity of Amenra and the melodic restraint of A Perfect Circle. The transitions feel seamless, making the song as unpredictable as the story it accompanies.
What makes ASAVA so unique is that neither the music nor the filmmaking feels secondary. One never overshadows the other. Instead, they work in complete harmony, each elevating the other into something greater than either could achieve alone. Watching the visuals without the music would leave the story incomplete, while listening without the film means missing half of the experience.
ASAVA already have the songwriting and musicianship to make a name for themselves on their own merits. Add in their impressive cinematic vision, and the ceiling suddenly becomes much higher. Few bands are creating experiences this immersive, and "Saveyourself" is another bold reminder that ASAVA are carving out a lane entirely their own.
