Are you sick of social distancing, wearing masks, and have nothing to look forward to? Are you a little bit disappointed that Bring Me The Horizon didn’t make another heavy/electronic album like That’s The Spirit? You love Architects, right?

Architects just released an epic new track titled “Animals” and an exquisite music video off of their 2021 record, For Those That Wish To Exist. This well-produced song is shifting Architects’ refined sound in a direction similar to Bring Me The Horizon and Being As An Ocean. Everything is awesome and here is why.

This phenomenal video was directed by Architects’ drummer Dan Searle and produced by Kode Media (www.kodemedia.com). The cinematography was done by Sy Turnbull (www.syturnbull.com) who’s style resembles David Fincher’s cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth. Anamorphic lens flares dance in front of a massive distressed wall as each of the band members rock out to the song. Sam Carter sings clean vocals in front of a pink background with soft Rembrandt lighting before joining his bandmates. Contrasting this is the rest of the band who plays in front of a pastel green background with dark lighting. Slow-motion cameras capture the band head-banging while shots of dead flowers, smoke grenades, drops of ink, and other objects are cut in between the performances.

Architects are making a new musical shift and I am fully on board. They are sticking with the heavy sound we all know and love but mixing in beautiful synthesizers, pads, and unique tricks like backward vocals thanks to Zakk Cervini. Zakk was the composer, mixer, and producer on Being As An Ocean’s latest album Proxy: An A.N.I.M.O. Story which is still one of my favorites because of the way incorporates electronic music with the heaviness of metal. The insane breakdown has a very dark vibe that reminds me of something Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross could have included in their score for Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Also, I have to know what cymbal was used because that piece of metal has a unique vibe. The drums were engineered by Nolly which means they’re going to sound outstanding on the final record.

Overall, the song is mellow but also very heavy. It’s soft and well lit while being dark and aggressive. It has clean vocals and some screaming, but unfortunately, this track did not feature a “bleh”. “Animals” by Architects is starting to fill the gap that Bring Me The Horizon opened after evolving too soon after their heavy/electronic album That’s The Spirit. Architects’ 2021 album For Those That Wish To Exist is expected to be one of the great metal releases of 2021. Imagine what those concerts are going to be like.
