YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO PRESS REPEAT ON THEIR NEWEST SINGLE “AGAIN AND AGAIN”

Remember that episode of SpongeBob when Squidward wound up in a neighborhood of fellow Squidwards? He hated it; the repetitive monotony drove him to madness so severe that he craved SpongeBob’s presence. That’s the exact idea Repeat had in their new punk single, “Day After Day,” though I can’t confirm or deny they used the actual reference point. What I can confirm, though, is that Squidward probably could have used this song in that moment. When everything feels stale or repetitive, understanding that someone else feels the pain too can become a lifeline.

In Repeat’s case, the context is much heavier than it was in SpongeBob. The narrator in “Day After Day” seemingly has had enough with larger themes. It could be less about daily routine and more about history repeating itself, again and again. We’re globally following the average definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results each time.

One could only assume, with a punk sound such as Repeat’s, that they’re perhaps going from both perspectives. The mundane routines of daily life feel heavier for people who are struggling to find meaning in their lives.

We slave our days away for minimal wages — sometimes less.

We hear everyone complain about the same things. Day. After. Day.

Repeat’s point is made loud and clear, with an unshakable percussion section stealing the show. The drums in this track are phenomenal, paired tightly with a gritty, roaring bassline. Overall, “Day After Day” belongs on repeat. Ba dum, tss.
