WATER FROM YOUR EYES DROP NEW EP IT’S BEAUTIFUL AND GET WEIRDER IN ALL THE RIGHT WAYS
Water From Your Eyes have returned with a new EP titled It’s Beautiful, out now via Matador, and the duo once again proves they’re living on their own creative planet. The EP features three reimagined versions of tracks from this year’s It’s A Beautiful Place, but these aren’t simple remixes. They’re alternate-universe versions, closer to the songs’ original forms and warped just enough to feel brand new.
Guitarist and producer Nate Amos explains it best. “The new versions of ‘Born 2’ and ‘Nights in Armor’ are actually just closer to how the songs existed in their original form,” he says. As for the extended cut of “Playing Classics,” the band couldn’t find the mythical ten-minute version fans kept asking about, so they made a new one. “Thought it would be funny if it were faster, too. I added car sound effects because cars are fast.”
The EP leans into everything that makes the band great: deadpan vocals, looping rhythms that feel like they might fall apart at any second, and a sense of humor that’s both dry and weirdly sincere. It is chaotic in a controlled way, catchy in a confusing way, and strangely emotional in between all the glitchy edges. In other words, it’s them.
Their momentum is only getting bigger. Water From Your Eyes will support Hayley Williams on her upcoming North American tour for Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party, making this one of their biggest touring years yet. They’re also heading to Australia for the first time and hitting Primavera Sound, because apparently everyone wants a piece of their beautiful weirdness right now.
It’s Beautiful is out now. Listen to the EP and check out the band’s tour dates below.
This one deserves a spot on your “I like my music slightly unhinged” playlist.
