TONE RANGER RIDES HIGH WITH STUNNING “A HORSE WITH NO NAME” COVER

Under the stage name Tone Ranger, Alex Simon specializes in desert house music, using lap steel guitars, harmonicas, and house beats to bring his inspirations to life. On August 28, 2026, he returned with his own take on “A Horse With No Name.”

Originally released by America, “A Horse With No Name” has become a timeless piece of western folk rock, and it’s easy to understand why the song would connect with Tone Ranger. Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Simon has spent plenty of time exploring the wilderness and drawing inspiration from the surrounding landscapes. The song is also a personal favorite, having accompanied him through the deserts of Joshua Tree and back home to New Mexico.

Tone Ranger keeps the original's overall spirit intact while adding his own modern twist with upbeat synths and electronic production. The familiar flow of the vocals remains, but the track eventually opens into a beautiful duet, with an ethereal female vocalist adding harmonies that give the song an entirely new dimension.

It’s melancholic enough to almost make you forget that you’re listening to a song about wandering through the desert and contemplating your entire existence on, quite literally, a horse with no name.

The original was already groovy, but Tone Ranger’s rendition might make you want to dance your way into the desert and hitchhike to the nearest festival, hopefully one with a Tone Ranger set waiting at the end.
