SEX WEEK'S DEBUT SINGLE HAS US GOING “TOAD MODE”
What is toad mode, and why do I suddenly feel it? Sex Week’s debut single “Toad Mode” is an indie heartfelt song that would definitely be featured in the soundtrack of a Michael Cera movie (100% would be Scott Pilgrim). Duets that respond to each other’s responses are my favorite types of songs to listen to when wanting to hear love songs.
The duo complement each other’s voices and blend perfectly to create the most comforting track I’ve heard this fall season. My favorite verse on the track is “The color of her hair / The color of a pear / The way she makes me stare / Just walking up the stairs,” it visually shows the beautiful love interest and how hypnotic she is to the observer. The guitar, occasional meows, and tambourine-like sound make this the perfect indie pop song. The vibes of the song resemble artists like Angus & Julia Stone, Alex G, Elliott Smith, and Sonic Youth.
Toad Mode is the perfect song to dedicate to your lover because, when you’re in love, it’s normal to act animalistic and enraptured by your other half. Want another reason to add this song to your playlist? The little meows you hear in the track are from the other featured member of the group, Toad the Cat. Toad is not just a cat of the duo’s but a muse for the lyricism.
Take a listen, and you’ll find yourself in Toad Mode.
