THEY TRIED TO BURY US RELEASE HIGH-OCTANE ROCK COVER OF “GREEDY” BY TATE MCRAE

“Greedy” by Tate McRae is among the biggest pop hits of this generation. Her charisma — whether natural or contrived — resonates with millions, including high-octane rock group They Tried To Bury Us. Their polished rock track adds energy and depth to the pop hit.

Though still polished, They Tried To Bury Us takes a vastly different approach to the single than McRae herself. That’s crucial for a cover; the song should stand well enough on its own while having elements of the cover band within it. In this case, the music is just as catchy as ever. However, for those who prefer some strong electric guitar leads, this is a refreshing take.

They Tried To Bury Us impressively veers away from taking too much of the song’s natural charms away from it. Instead, they lean into its quirks. While certainly a formulaic pop single, it has a few vocal qualities to it that make it stand out. This version emphasizes them, rather than shying away from them, albeit in the group’s own unique way.

For example, the upper range notes were well-executed. They effectively conveyed the emotions behind the song while adding even more energy to it by showcasing their vocal tone, rather than replicating McRae’s.

I’ve only played the original version a few times myself, but might lean more towards They Tried To Bury Us’ version. Truthfully, I love a lot of pop music, but haven’t explored McRae’s discography — though this cover of “Greedy” may act as my gateway to it.
