THE STROKES RETURN WITH “FALLING OUT OF LOVE,” A COOL, DETACHED SPIN ON HEARTBREAK

The Strokes are back with “Falling out of Love,” a track that feels instantly familiar but subtly off in all the right ways.

Built on a tight, driving groove and those unmistakable interlocking guitars, the song leans into the band’s signature cool without sounding like a retread. There’s a restraint here. Instead of exploding into something bigger, it keeps everything locked in, letting the tension do the work.

Julian Casablancas delivers one of his more subdued performances in recent memory, but this time it’s filtered through heavy auto-tune. It’s not a gimmick. It adds a distant, almost synthetic layer that makes his voice feel slightly removed from everything around it, reinforcing the song’s slow emotional drift.

The track is produced by Rick Rubin, and you can feel that balance throughout. Nothing feels overworked. There’s space, clarity, and just enough tension to let the song breathe without losing its edge.

Lyrically, “Falling Out of Love” doesn’t overcomplicate things. It sits in that in-between space where nothing dramatic happens, but everything feels different. The kind of quiet unraveling that’s harder to define, and harder to fix.

Outside the studio, the band isn’t slowing down. A massive global tour is already on the books, stretching from June through the fall with stops across North America, the UK, Europe, South America, and Japan. Highlights include two nights at Red Rocks, a double-header at London’s O2, plus major rooms in Toronto, Paris, and Amsterdam.

They’re also set to headline Just Like Heaven Festival in Pasadena, adding another major moment to an already packed schedule. Support will rotate throughout the run with names like Thundercat, Cage the Elephant, Hamilton Leithauser, Fat White Family, The Garden, Alex Cameron, Geordie Greep, Promiseland, and ÖLÜM.

The band’s new album Reality Awaits is out 6/26 via Cult/RCA. Click HERE to pre-order.
