WORDS BY OLIVIA DUCHARME
The Interrupters are back and kicking off 2027 with their first full-length album in four years, Battle Scars, set to drop January 29. The announcement follows news of their extensive North American, UK, and European tour, which begins in March.
The ska-punk outfit has also released their new single, “Back from the Dead,” aptly named after several years away from the spotlight. The accompanying music video takes place in a hospital and explores the space between death and rebirth.
Lead singer Aimee Interrupter explains, “I had a near-death experience, and now when I look back on it, I realize that the version of myself that died is truly gone.”
It's a poignant reflection on how far the Los Angeles-based band has come since their beginnings in 2011 and how they're approaching this next chapter.
Battle Scars features collaborations with some of punk rock's most recognizable names, including Tim Armstrong (Rancid, Operation Ivy), Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion), Jesse Michaels (Operation Ivy), and Travis Barker (Blink-182, Transplants).
Armstrong produced the album alongside Kevin Bivona, Michaels co-wrote two tracks, and Barker contributed drums and production to “Wild Heart,” “Unbreakable,” and “Warrior Spirit.” Punk rock heavyweights have helped shape The Interrupters' evolving sound, which incorporates elements of post-punk and synth-pop.
The Interrupters, consisting of Aimee Interrupter and brothers Kevin, Justin, and Jesse Bivona, broke into the mainstream with their 2018 anthem “She's Kerosene,” building a dedicated global fanbase along the way.
Known for their infectious anthems and honest reflections on life's struggles, the band continues to explore themes of suffering, resilience, and personal growth on Battle Scars.
“On this album, I'm speaking my truth, and some of it's deeply personal,” Aimee shares.
At its heart, Battle Scars reflects on overcoming hardship and making it to the other side. It's an album about survival, change, and the experiences that shape who we become.
The Interrupters' previously announced North American tour kicks off March 17 at the Fox Theater in Pomona, California. The extensive run of more than 30 dates features support from The Mainliners, The Aquabats, Doom Regulator, RAT BOY, The Bandulus, The Chin Chins, and J & Nicki Bonner.
