THE CRITICALS’ “ADORINGLY DRUNK” IS MESSY BUT FUN PUSH-PULL AFFAIR BETWEEN THE SEXES

“Adorning Drunk” is a song that gets better as you listen, especially at the halfway mark. That’s where The Criticals let go and rock musically with raw, unbridled abandon. The single kicks in hard and is less mannered. It is just super noisy, like fuzzed out, but melodic. It falls in line between indie, garage, and alternative rock genres—a chance meeting (wild boy meets an even wilder worldly, clever, savvy girl). As a result, their paths collide and crash. There is fascination, lust, and admiration rolled into one for the hard-partying duo. “Adoringly Drunk” doesn’t “reinvent the wheel” as there have to be countless songs about getting wasted per se, but this single keeps you invested in both “characters.” Especially one that proclaims they would “die” for their potential amour.
