SPLIT CHAIN RETURN WITH PUMMELING NEW ROCK JAM “SCATTERBRAIN”
Nu-gaze outfit Split Chain are back with a killer new single, “Scatterbrain.” It’s a fiery, three-minute burst that balances headbanging energy with a heavier, more introspective weight. The track arrives alongside the upcoming deluxe edition of their debut album motionblur, and it feels like a statement.
“Scatterbrain” wastes no time. It opens with a wall of distorted guitars and a snare that hits like it’s trying to break through the mix. From there, the band moves effortlessly between crushing, groove-driven sections and more atmospheric, reflective moments. You can hear traces of post-hardcore, shoegaze, grunge, and nu-metal woven throughout, but it never feels like a throwback. It feels intentional and current.
What really lands is the contrast. Metallic, full-throttle vocals collide with hazy, dreamlike layers, constantly pulling the song between aggression and introspection. By the time the final breakdown hits, it lands with real weight, while the fading guitar lines linger long after the track cuts out. “Scatterbrain” doesn’t just hit hard, it sticks.
Alongside "scatterbrain,” a digital deluxe edition of their acclaimed debut ‘motionblur’ will be available September 11 on Epitaph Records. Each track has been reimagined by the band and features rising bands in today's alternative scene, bringing in London hardcore group False Reality on “SPIT,” Las Vegas’ Roman Candle on “Headway,” and many more. Expanding on the deluxe edition, the band shares, “we are so, so proud of what we created with ‘motionblur,’ and we wanted to come up with a way to celebrate it all over again, in a way that both shows love to the scene that has helped us get where we are now, as well as including many of the friends that we’ve made along the way.” The 'motionblur [DELUXE]’ will also include recent singles “sylvia (i won’t belong to you)” and today’s “scatterbrain,” as well as “untitled,” a track that was previously hidden and unlisted on the LP & CD versions of the album.
“We get that everyone interprets music in their own way, and so we invited a bunch of mates to feature across the album, so that we could hear their individual interpretations of the songs. It came out so much better than we could have even hoped, and we truly believe the work and energy that every person has done on every song is incredible. The cast of names on this version on this album is sick, and we know people are gonna love it just as much as we do. We’re so incredibly grateful to every single artist that has helped the deluxe become a reality and we genuinely can’t wait to hear what everybody thinks."
