When’s the last time you listened to a track that made you salivate? When’s the last time a song made you think, made you cry, made you say, “Hell this is a gem. I need to share this with the world.” The latest creation from Dogwood Last will do all those things and more.

Titled “Mari (feat. Spec Kay)”, the track is a blissful array of multiple genres and feels. Combining elements of indie rock with a subtle injection of R&B, the song will captivate you from the first few seconds. A powerful bassline meshed with airy synths provides the listener with a tangible auditory overload, in the best way.

Primary songwriter Kory Burrell states that the song was inspired by the end of a prior relationship with a notable age gap. “Age and time became somewhat of a filter/barrier for all our communication,” he says. “‘Mari’ is about navigating the secrets [and] truths about ourselves we keep from ourselves and each other...it could be interpreted as if it were one person speaking to another or a relationship, but also as if it were a person speaking to themselves.” The new single brilliantly explores the duality of complicated and conflicting emotions surrounding a relationship’s end - “good and bad, frustration and joy, yearning and rejection”.
