SOCIAL CREATURES FIND THEIR GROOVE ON DREAMY NEW SINGLE “SEA GLASS”

Brooklyn electronic indie-rock outfit Social Creatures are entering a new era with their latest single, “Sea Glass.”
The four-piece originally formed in Bushwick in 2018 after finding the perfect drummer on Craigslist, of all places. Social Creatures released their self-titled debut album through BonFire Records in 2020 and have been steadily building their sound ever since. Earlier this year, the band signed with Mint 400 Records, making “Sea Glass” their first release with the label.
Released September 25, “Sea Glass” floats somewhere between melancholic nostalgia and danceable new wave funk. The track opens with funky synths and a bassline that feels as satisfying as finding an actual piece of sea glass buried along the beach.
But listen closely because there’s another star hiding in the mix: cowbell.
Paired with the lyric, “How can I make it better,” the answer seems pretty obvious. More cowbell.
Frontman Jono Robertson tops everything off with a smooth falsetto that gives the track its dreamy edge. When the bridge arrives and the groove kicks back in, you have two options: stare dramatically out the window contemplating your existence or get up and dance a little. Both work.
Fans of Beach House, Tame Impala, and Foster the People should find plenty to dig into here. “Sea Glass” is dreamy enough to disappear into, yet still has enough rhythm to keep your feet moving.
The single will appear on Social Creatures’ upcoming EP for Mint 400 Records, with more details still to come.
