NOTHING SHARE NEW SINGLE “TOOTHLESS COAL”
NOTHING by Luke Ivanovich
Nothing returns with their new single “Toothless Coal,” a bleak and immersive cut that continues the band’s signature slow-burn heaviness. The track arrives ahead of their upcoming release ‘A Short History of Decay,’ out February 27 via Run For Cover Records.
“Toothless Coal” is patient and crushing, built on thick, detuned guitars that blur the line between riff and atmosphere. Nothing resist the urge to explode, instead letting repetition, weight, and tension do the work. Vocals remain buried and distant, adding to the song’s exhausted, worn-down emotional pull. It’s heavy without being flashy and melodic without offering comfort, the kind of track that sinks in deeper the longer it plays.
The accompanying music video leans into that rawness with a live performance piece that keeps things stripped down and intense. Shot with cool, out-of-camera lens effects, the visuals distort and bend the performance just enough to match the song’s hazy, oppressive mood. It feels immediate and physical, capturing the band as they are rather than dressing the track up with unnecessary narrative.
Nothing will take this energy on the road soon, with tour dates kicking off February 8. With A Short History of Decay arriving February 27 via Run For Cover, “Toothless Coal” sets the tone for what’s ahead. Bleak, immersive, and quietly devastating, Nothing isn’t reinventing itself. They’re sharpening the blade.
