BOTH PLAYFUL AND INTROSPECTIVE: “HOLY VIRGIN” BY STINKUS
The first single of Stinkus’ second album, “I love you, trackstar,” has been released, providing a promising glimpse into the record. “Holy Virgin” is a blissful song of quiet observation and deep thought.
The heavy bass introduction carries the song throughout, providing a deep sound that highlights the inner turmoil present in the song. As the guitar fades in, an explosion of sound hits your senses, and you’re taken to a sensation mimicking a blissful, sunny day. It’s actually very upbeat, but the lyrics bring out themes of uncertainty.
Vibes of going for a walk, but still being stuck with passing thoughts are present. The lyrics open with themes of religion, questioning its existence, and then transition to the human experience. Then the chorus comes in: “I want to start again,” which is a very realistic and relatable hook.
Flute noises pop up halfway through the song and are an enjoyable addition. It’s a nice indie rock with a garage vibe, including very authentic, pleasant vocals. I want to highlight the vocals, just because they flow really well overall. Even on the more unserious, spoken parts, they work with the overall experimental vibe of the song.
“Holy Virgin” is a breath of fresh air. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but also demands attention in a lively way. The lyrics are super fun, pleasing to the ear, and carry a good tune. I’m in the mood for a good walk in the park now. Thanks, Stinkus.
