LOVE LIKE ENEMIES DELIVER METALCORE PERFECTION ON “THE WASP & THE SPIDER”

Love Like Enemies have just dropped a massive alt-rock-meets-metalcore anthem with their fiery new single “The Wasp & The Spider.” Featuring guest vocals and some absolutely vicious screams from Dave Escamilla, the track has pretty much every base covered. We’re talking vintage early-2000s metalcore riffs and chugs, masterful good cop/bad cop vocal interplay, pummeling drums, double-kick salvos, intricate yet ridiculously catchy guitar melodies and, of course, some stellar breakdowns. There’s a nostalgic quality to the track that immediately brings you back to metalcore’s glory days, but Love Like Enemies never sound like they’re simply trying to recreate something that’s already been done.

The balance between melody and aggression is where “The Wasp & The Spider” really shines. The cleaner vocals give the track a strong melodic backbone before Escamilla crashes in and pushes everything into much heavier territory. His screams fit naturally into the song rather than feeling like a guest spot thrown in for the sake of having one, and the back-and-forth between vocal styles gives the track some of its best moments. Underneath it all, the guitars constantly move between chunky riffs and surprisingly infectious melodies while the drums keep everything charging forward.

Clocking in at just under three minutes, it’s kind of impressive how much Love Like Enemies manage to cram into this thing without making it feel overcrowded. There’s almost no wasted space as the band jumps from massive hooks to crushing riffs and breakdowns without ever losing the song itself along the way. Time flies when you’re having fun and snapping your neck headbanging, and “The Wasp & The Spider” is an absolute monster of a track that you’ll probably want to run back the second it ends.
