New York indie rock legends The Strokes are officially back, announcing their long-awaited new album Reality Awaits, set to arrive this summer.
The record marks the band’s first full-length since 2020’s The New Abnormal, which earned them their first Grammy and reestablished their place at the top of modern rock.
The announcement comes at a time when the band is clearly ramping things up again. Just days ago, The Strokes took over The Warfield on April 4, delivering a rare, intimate performance that had fans packed in and locked from front to back. Shows like that don’t happen often, and it only added fuel to the growing anticipation around new material.
Details around Reality Awaits are still scarce, but the timing lines up with a massive year ahead for the band. The Strokes are set to headline major festivals, including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands, putting them back in front of huge crowds right as new material begins to surface.
This will be the band’s seventh studio album and their first in over half a decade, a gap that only adds to the weight of the release. Over the past few years, members have focused on side projects and sporadic live appearances, making this return feel more like a reset than just another cycle.
If the teaser is any indication, Reality Awaits could lean into the band’s signature mix of sleek indie rock and off-kilter experimentation, something they’ve continued to refine over the years.
