LEFT TO SUFFER TELL THE HATERS TO “STFU” ON BRUTAL NEW SINGLE
If you’ve got strong opinions about what Left to Suffer is supposed to sound like, the Atlanta heavyweights have a pretty simple response: STFU.
Left to Suffer are back with “STFU,” the latest single from their upcoming album Unwelcome Guest, out October 9 via Hopeless Records. The track follows “Gun In The Duffel Bag” and the album’s title track, giving fans another look at what this next chapter of the band is shaping up to be.
Across three minutes, Left to Suffer slam their deathcore roots straight into the bounce, swagger, and attitude of old-school nu-metal. You get vinyl scratches, Drop B riffs, and a vocal performance that sounds like it’s being delivered through clenched teeth. The whole thing feels like a giant middle finger to anyone who thinks they’ve got the band neatly figured out.
According to guitarist Peter Higgs, that was very much the point.
“Some people think we sold out. Others think we lost the plot,” Higgs says, explaining that the band responded by tuning to Drop B, writing nu-metal riffs, and “talked a whole lot of shit.” In other words, “STFU” is aimed right at the people who seem to think they know what Left to Suffer should be better than Left to Suffer do.
Honestly, that attitude makes sense for where the band is now. Since forming in Atlanta in 2019, Left to Suffer have never seemed all that interested in staying boxed into one lane. Their sound still has deathcore at its core, but they’ve continued to pull from nu-metal and other corners of heavy music, pushing things outward rather than sanding the edges down. Unwelcome Guest also marks their first full-length since signing with Hopeless Records, making this feel like a pretty clear statement of intent.
The record will feature 11 tracks, including “Therapy,” “404,” “Bleeding Out,” and “WRONG NUMBER,” which features Alan Grnja of DISTANT. Based on what we’ve heard so far, Unwelcome Guest doesn’t seem interested in following whatever rulebook people think modern deathcore is supposed to have.
Left to Suffer will also bring the new material on the road this fall, joining Dying Fetus and Sanguisugabogg on their North American co-headlining tour alongside Crowbar and Deterioration.
Unwelcome Guest arrives October 9 via Hopeless Records.
