LAST SEEN ALIVE UNLEASH EXPLOSIVE DEUBT ALT-ROCK SINGLE “IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED?”
I’ve been sent plenty of artist debuts. Many are wonderful; it’s always an honor to be granted the keys to someone’s fresh start. However, a few stand out, like the alternative rock group Last Seen Alive. Their stadium-loud first single, “Is This What You Wanted?” revives a classic sound nearly lost to time.
It’s become a tired cliche to compare woman-fronted artists to Paramore, but Last Seen Alive mirrors the Nashville trio. The clear lead vocals, expertly curated instrumental dynamics, and overall aesthetic encapsulate each Paramore era, from ‘Riot!’ to their latest effort, ‘This Is Why.’ A few notes of Miss Williams’ (if you’re nasty…) solo work, ‘Petals For Armor,’ are sprinkled throughout.
Though it’s crucial to note that the group stands just as tall on their own, their clear landmarks, like Strokes-y indie guitar riffs as a precursor to a heavy alternative chorus, are definitive of a budding signature sound. Seeing where these flowers blossom will be amazing if this is ground zero. Also, the single shines lyrically; it doesn’t rely on flowery language to get by, but on emotional intelligence.
“Is This What You Wanted?” deserved to be in the ‘Twilight’ soundtrack, too. Last Seen Alive is off to a fantastic start, and one can only imagine where their unbridled creative potential might take them.
