NYIKO TIPS THEIR HAT TO THE HALLOWEEN SEASON WITH NEW SINGLE "GHOST IN YOUR DREAMS"
There's a slight chill in the Los Angeles air with shoegaze artist NYIKO's new single "Ghost In Your Dreams". The moody post-rock song kicks off with a surf vibe under grey skies, driven by steady drums and graced with harmonically ambient vocals. There's a complete purity at the beginning that takes you away from your heartache. Suddenly painting you into a portrait of a sun-kissed tan, with the wind in your hair while you drive along the coast with the top down. NYIKO opens the single with beaming harmonic vocals "Found our love at the end of the summer" that break through the gloomy clouds of the Fall season. But as trees begin to turn, and a chill takes over our lungs, we feel that last remanence of ex-love trickle away, and we are left with only the memory of it haunting our dreams. NYIKO identifies themself as "the radiant glow of a summer sunset and the engulfing darkness of night", and we get exactly that out of "Ghost In Your Dreams". NYIKO says the song was written as a means to process previous relationships and spaces those memories occupy.
"Love shows up when we least expect it. When it does, we may not even be ready for it. That is both the beauty and pain of love. In some ways, the memories of our lovers become the ghosts in our lives - a scent, a sound, or energy that recalls that special person or time" says the songwriter.
"Ghost In Your Dreams" invites you to stroll down the boulevard of broken hearts, and depicts what it's like to get over an ex-love. A shimmering high hat leads up to the beaming chorus, “I'm just the ghost in your dreams/ and you're fighting for sleep / it takes the life out of me / our love is a vampire it seems”. Lost love will continue to haunt you, and it will continue to drain you, implying that you can never really escape love, no matter how hard you try. "Is this a nightmare?/ You know I'll still care" is a lyric that will continue to haunt the listener. "Ghost In Your Dreams" will bring us to comfort the next time we lay our head upon our pillow, and think of love lost as we coax ourselves to sleep.
