“KEEPSAKE THEORY” BY HIT LIKE A GIRL IS PUNCHY AND POTENT
Hit Like a Girl recently dropped “Keepsake Theory,” the heavy-hitting and inspiring lead single of their upcoming album, Burning At Both Ends. Initially started by Nicolle Maroulis, this forthcoming album features bandmates Mol White and Mike Davis. From the fragrant, piercing vocals to the heavy emo influence, this song is an automatic emotional banger with an impact that lingers.
Something that is absolutely undeniable is the band's serious charisma. In a time of uncertainty, Hit Like a Girl punches back, highlighting queer solidarity through their incredible talents and delivery. There’s no shortage of passion in this project – its prominence translates into every nook and cranny of the song.
It’s fun, fresh, and full of emotion. From the upbeat synth tune at the start, the edgy, ripping guitar, to the flawlessly executed shouting vocals by Maroulis, the band effortlessly combines sounds to transcend genre and create something interesting.
The combination of screamo to melodic vocals is reminiscent of early 2000’s hardcore, mixed with the perfect amount of Midwest emo. The pop element peaks its head through, creating a fusion that is just as danceable as it is screamable.
Each instrument is layered to perfection with an overall great production. “Keepsake Theory” details the ghost of a relationship as it crumbles into the past. What was once special is now just memories tucked under the bed.
The track comes to a halt when Maroulis says, “You’re right, there are no photos of us,” providing an epic pause that’s just screaming to be played live.
“Keepsake Theory” is definitely Hit Like a Girl’s punchiest track to date, carrying melodic riffs with heavy themes. The consistency carries all the way through the song’s bright start to the crashing conclusion. The band is loaded, all that’s left to do now is release the LP (or a couple more songs while they’re at it) – we can’t wait to hear what’s next!
