Celebrating the 10th anniversary of ‘Never Hungover Again,’ Joyce Manor released five-anniversary shows for their fans. GSM had the opportunity to attend the Anaheim sold-out show, and wow, what a gig!
The concert had three openers: Toys That Kill, Algernon Cadwallader, and Smoking Data Guns. The bands with the pop-punk/midwest emo sound were the perfect addition to the shows. The crowd loved the music and kept the energy up until it was time to celebrate their favorite album.
Joyce Manor opened up the show full of energy with the first track of their album ‘Christmas Card.’
“Falling In Love Again” had the energy of a room filled with love-sick teenagers.
“Heart Tattoo” had fans losing their shoes during the pit, which made lead singer Barry Johnson stop the show from finding the owner of the pair and relating to him by telling the fans he lost his shoes in the pit of an Aquabats show in the past.
“Catalina Fight Song” was dedicated to the city of San Pedro, but the Anaheim fans made it their song as they jumped and sang the lyrics at the top of their lungs.
Although the album itself is 19 minutes long, the show continued, and the band played a few of their other popular songs, such as “Constant Headache” and “NBTSA,” among others.
Having seen Joyce Manor a few times, I expected a great show, but the energy during this Anaheim show was different. It was a full circle moment for the band; they reminisced on stage about the songs they performed and were gratuitous for the years since the initial release. The anniversary show was fun to experience and most definitely one for the books.
