FOTOFORM UNVEILS HAUNTINGLY DREAMY SINGLE “THIS CITY IS OVER”
Seattle-based group Fotoform have shared a new single, prepping their third album, out April 18th. “The City is Over” is a heartfelt indie shoegaze banger that will transport you into its dreamy world, filled with sparkly, spacey guitars, layers of entrancing vocals, and a driving drum beat that blends pop, new wave, and indie rock in a whole new light. Kim House has a way of guiding the listener through the thick production with clean, sweet, nostalgic melodies that lull you into this 4-minute track.
The track delves into profound, deeper meanings of life, embracing your truth, rediscovering yourself, and serves as a poignant reminder to stop going through life sleepwalking.
The group shares with us: “This song (and much of the upcoming album) came in the wake of a series of personal (and professional) traumas and turning points. I left the only career I had known (in fashion) to try to find something more meaningful and sustainable, in all senses of the word, and, honestly, less toxic. The “city” in the song can represent capitalism and rampant commerce as well as the city itself: booming urban environments that sacrifice quality of life for profit.”
Loss, reflection after losing a loved one, and the overall impermanence of life. “Ever since my brother died in an accident when I was 17, I’ve felt this pressure to live for two people. I often think about what he might have done differently if he knew his time would be cut short–and what I wish I had done differently had I known he was leaving,” says House. “We take our impermanence for granted until something terrifying, tragic, or traumatic snaps us out of our obliviousness into the painfully clear reality of our fragility.”
Something we all could afford to be reminded of sometimes, in order to stop and take a minute (or 4:12) to check in with ourselves.
For fans of The Cure, The Cranberries, and Cocteau Twins. The song features a music video, directed by Erik Foster, that pays homage to earlier acts that influenced the group’s signature sound.
