Venice Beach hardcore punks XCOMM are stepping in loud with their debut album Time To Burn, landing May 22 via Blowed Out Records. They’re leading the charge with a new single, “Borrowed Happiness,” and it doesn’t waste a second making its point.

The track feels restless in the best way. There’s tension baked into it, like it’s constantly trying to break out of itself. It’s melodic, but there’s a grit underneath that keeps it from getting too comfortable. Lyrically, it hits on that idea of chasing something temporary and realizing it was never really yours, and that feeling comes through without being overdone.

Drummer Revel Ian summed up the album pretty bluntly: “[Producer] Ross Robinson transformed us into musical weapons that will blow your head off when you play our record.”

Frontman Michael Gatto takes a more reflective angle: “I’ll forever be grateful for making this record. The whole process from tracking to mixing was insane. ‘Borrowed Happiness’ is one of my favorites. Shooting the video with Darren and everyone in the van was super fun, and it always hits live.”

Producer Ross Robinson says: “Nothing brings me more satisfaction as a producer than sharing that undeniable life force of untainted expression…XCOMM, being the youngest band I’ve ever worked with, I had to nickname the studio sessions as “daycare.” It was so fun and alive throughout the whole process. Made me realize on another level how important the pulse of youth truly is.

You can hear that energy in the track. It’s not polished to death, it’s got edges, and that’s why it works.

Debut records can go either way, but this feels like a band that knows what they want to sound like and isn’t second-guessing it.

Catch the band in Los Angeles at the California Chaos Festival on April 11th at Pacific Electric. Click HERE for tickets.
