IGORRR TURN VANCOUVER’S VOGUE THEATRE INTO A BEAUTIFULLY BIZARRE SPECTACLE

Igorrr, presented by MRG Live, brought complete madness to Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre on Tuesday, September 29, with Violent Magic Orchestra (VMO) and Secret Chiefs 3 joining them for one seriously unpredictable night.
Trying to squeeze an Igorrr live show into a single genre feels almost impossible. One minute, the room is filled with haunting operatic vocals and theatrical beauty. The next, everything crashes down into electronic beats, crushing guitars, and a raging mosh pit.
That constant push and pull is exactly what makes Igorrr so fascinating live. You genuinely never know what’s coming next, yet somehow every strange turn feels like it belongs. “Very Noise,” “Camel Dancefloor,” and “Spaghetti Forever” hit especially hard, with the crowd matching the band’s intensity from beginning to end.
The production fit the music perfectly. Dark, frantic, and visually overwhelming when it needed to be, the show still knew when to pull back and give the operatic sections enough room to completely take over the theatre. Throw in some incredible costumes and constantly changing visuals, and from a photographer’s perspective, the entire performance was an absolute playground.
But that’s the thing about Igorrr. Listening to the music is one experience. Seeing it unfold in front of you is something else entirely.
The strange collision of metal, electronic music, opera, and theatrical performance suddenly makes perfect sense when you’re standing in the middle of it. Igorrr are bizarre in all the right ways, ridiculously talented, and completely uninterested in sounding or looking like anyone else.
After photographing plenty of shows this year, this one will be hard to forget.
