EZRA BEGINS DEBUT ALBUM ROLLOUT WITH NOSTALGIC BREAKUP ANTHEM “INTERMISSION”
Do you have “the one that got away?” Emo-indie hybrid Ezra does. He doesn’t hold back in his music, detailing experiences with growing pains, mental health struggles, and relationships. His most recent single, “intermission,” is more than just a sadboy anthem. It articulates the specific ache of wondering; people often dwell on what could have been, especially in relationships from our youth that might not have taken off the way we’d hoped they would.
The single is a bit more laid-back than a lot of Ezra’s other, glitchier synth-pop. He has expanded upon the initial onset of “Ezracore,” dubbed by fans thanks to his frequent creative risks — that always pay off. Ezra’s creative ear allows for collaborative efforts that really stick, especially when they veer on the side of unconventional choices. “intermission” represents Ezra’s growth over the past few years. His transitional arc, from the first single to “intermission,” showcases an artist that’s spent a lot of time working on themselves, both musically and personally.
Namely, Ezra frequently writes about the toll moving to LA took on him. In “intermission,” he specifically talks about the relationships he left behind, outside of his family. A decade post-event, Ezra still can’t help but imagine what might have been if he didn’t make the bold choice to pursue his dreams.
Moreover, Ezra’s vocal ability has transformed tremendously. Where he started in the realm of Soundcloud post-emo rap, he can now confidently call himself a singer. The grit in his natural vocal tone is both interesting to listen to and technically skilled.
Contemplative and relatable, “intermission” serves as a bold introduction to Ezra’s full-length debut. We’ve been waiting so long for this one, and we’re so glad it’s finally coming!
