ELECTRIC PETS RELEASES THEIR FIRST SINGLE OF THE YEAR, KOWTOW!

Their first release of 2025, Electric Pets gives us a VIBE of a track, to say the least. Combining pop, indie rock, and a specific 60’s rockabilly sound, these genre-benders had me looking up what their unique title, “Kowtow”, meant (it means to act excessively subserviently). “Kowtow!” starts with a surf-rock filter, adding in their velvety lead vocals and fuzzy indie-rock guitar melodies that steadily build us into the super anthemic chorus:

“Now I know I’ve had enough

I can’t seem to give you up

I know I would want you more

If you kowtow bow down at my door”

The band shares with us: “I am often striving to create what I call the perfect happy/sad song. A Song that is both positive, uplifting and emotive, but also quietly beautiful and steeped in melancholy. That was the starting point for Kowtow. i.e. we more often than not have an emotional foot in both camps and I love songs that cleverly manage to hold a mirror up to that.”

You can hear both halves of that sentiment, from the moody tone of the soft and smooth vocals in the verses, to the high energy layers of emotion in the more energetic parts of this song. Much like the sentiment in the lyrical content, this track is strong and confident with a sense of independence-to-a-fault. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear rockabilly mixed with a more modern indie-rock/pop feeling - this one is for fans of The Strokes, The Cramps, and Siouxsie and the Banshees!
