BIG SLEEP LETS LOOSE IN “DOO DOO DOO DOO DOO”

Big Sleep is back with another track to bless our ears. As you can probably guess from the song’s title, “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo,” the Dublin-based band is letting down their hair for a more playful sound.

Immediately reminiscent of The Strokes, with their soaring guitar and more poppy sound, they tackle this indie pop genre head-on. The snappy drumbeat and pungent bass lead the song. It doesn’t switch up much, keeping a consistency that is overall pretty fun and different.

It explores themes of change, realization, and acceptance that maybe this person isn’t the one for you. Actively trying to avoid a situation where he’s stuck “six feet under the ground,” the exploration of post-breakup life is playfully spoken through. This curiosity shines through both the lyrics and the track's lightheartedness. One honorable mention is the line, “Neighbors making love next door all night,” which is equal parts lyrically comedic and unique in production with the way it’s chanted.

The voice of Rónán Connolly fits this style perfectly, contrasting the bright, upbeat tune with his deep, smooth vocals. Some of the shreddy, distorted guitar towards the end brings you back to the central, emotional core that’s in every Big Sleep track.

“Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo” is a playful song that doesn't take itself too seriously. Overall, things are looking up for the band and bright for their upcoming album, ‘Holy Show.’ They’ve proven that they can take on diverse genres while still maintaining a signature sound that makes them Big Sleep.
