DETHWISH DRAW FIRST BLOOD WITH “ONE OF US IS THE KILLER,” ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM RUBY
If Nine Inch Nails were coming up alongside the TikTok generation, you might end up somewhere in the twisted world of Dethwish.
The 26-year-old Connecticut artist has been carving out a space where nu-metal, hyperpunk, and industrial darkness can comfortably beat the hell out of each other. Operating in the same scene as bands like Symposia and Cheem, Dethwish has quickly gained attention through high-energy live performances and a sound that can be gnarly and nihilistic one second and ridiculously catchy the next.
Now, that world is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Dethwish has announced new album RUBY, arriving October 31, and is giving us our first taste with new single “One Of Us Is The Killer.”
There’s an abrasive edge running through Dethwish’s music, but the chaos never feels pointless. Beneath all the distortion and aggression are hooks designed to take up real estate in your brain long after the song ends. It’s an interesting collision of sounds, pulling from the darkness and mechanical grime of industrial rock while filtering it through a much more modern, internet-raised generation of heavy music.
That combination makes “One Of Us Is The Killer” a fitting introduction to RUBY. Rather than neatly fitting into nu-metal, punk, industrial, or electronic music, Dethwish seems far more interested in grabbing pieces from all of them and building something strange out of the wreckage.
There’s also something almost too perfect about an album this dark arriving on Halloween. With RUBY officially landing October 31, Dethwish has plenty of time to pull listeners deeper into the world surrounding the record.
For now, “One Of Us Is The Killer” gives us our first look inside.
And if this is where RUBY begins, Halloween suddenly feels pretty damn far away.
