DD ISLAND EMBRACES THE WARMTH OF ANALOG IN “ALL THE SAME”
Currently on repeat for this whimsical winter season is DD Island’s “All the Same,” a chill and mystifying single that envelops listeners into a warm, hazy embrace. Debuting as the lead single off their upcoming record ‘Setting Sun,’ the track is just a taste of the Brooklyn band’s potential.
Like Still Woozy, DD Island takes listeners on a trippy journey, both sonically and lyrically. With fuzzy drums and dreamy guitar, the slow song indulges listeners in a blissful surf melody. It has a hint of psychedelia, with drowsy vocals that solidify it as a beautiful indie track.
Additionally, it has an overall upbeat and enchanting tone, taking on a beachy vibe that can at times feel like floating on a wave on a misty morning.
In line with the song's folky atmosphere, the vocals take on a sleepy tone that mimics the feeling of staring at your ceiling, ruminating. Using repetition in lyrics like “a little bit more of the same” reinforces the same thoughts, eventually exhausting you. At the same time, it’s introspective, taking on themes of contemplation and growth
The production of “All the Same” is top-notch, balancing rawness with edge to perfectly convey a vintage feel that the band pioneers. This checks out, given that the track was recorded on a Tascam 388, an analog recorder from the 80s. It’s looking bright for the future of DD Island, which is ramping up for its album drop this spring.
