COUNTERPARTS DESTROYS THE HOUSE OF BLUES - ANAHEIM WITH AN UNRELENTING ONSLAUGHT OF MELODIC HARDCORE
WORDS AND PHOTOS BY KAITLYN MADRIGAL
Last weekend Counterparts arrived in Southern California for their 14th stop on their current North American tour. Before we dive into it all, I want to give a massive shout out to the openers, Foreign Hands, Malevolence, and Pain of Truth. Everyone on that stage brought all the energy you wish to witness at a metalcore/hardcore show.
From the second the house lights dimmed and the stage lit up, moments before Counterparts hit the stage, the crowd was in awe. With roaring cheers and screams, the anticipation was met with the first track, “A Martyr Left Alive,” to their newest EP, ‘Heaven Let them Die.’ Each of these six song EPs, there is no doubt every single song packs a considerable punch, making this release one of their heaviest.
After the first two songs from the latest release, they immediately went into crowd favorites such as “Bound to the Burn” and “Your Own Knife,” both from past albums. Filling this almost 2,000-capacity music hall, the energy shared between the band and crowd did not dull and became stronger as the night went on. The night was perfectly capped with the emotionally inducing track, “Heaven Let them Die,” which probably consisted of one of the heaviest breakdowns I’ve heard this year.
Their set and two encores later, this was one of the best shows I’ve been to. If this band is ever in your area, super fan or not, make sure to see them, they’re amazing live!
