CLEA’S ETHEREAL INDIE POP SINGLE, “CALI” BELIES ITS DARK MESSAGE ABOUT THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY
“Cali” is seductive and hypnotic as those who pursue the elusive dream of making it in Hollywood and a price to pay for wanting fame. Clea sings in a voice so wispy, laid back, and chill you wouldn’t expect the cutting cascade of lyrics both cynic, smug, and sneering.
The singer/songwriter captures the shallowness and heavy cost of what it takes to become famous. It’s a cautionary tale. The moody track is musically easy on the ears with sonic additional elements, including hyperpop and electronic touches.
“Cali” also has an atmospheric and spacious sound. Clea is another in a series of artists (maybe millions?) who find inspiration and source material in writing about Hollywood.
Clea has now thrown her hat into that overcrowded ring with her spin/take on that beyond-faded, tarnished Tinseltown motif. “Cali” does hold one’s attention to the single’s end. One feels a sense of sadness and hopelessness for the person described in vivid detail in the stark track.
