CATHEDRAL CEILINGS’ NEW TRACK, “BILL BERRY” IS A NOSTALGIC AND JOYOUS HOMAGE TO MIXTAPE CULTURE

The New Jersey power trio Cathedral Ceilings have released a single, “Bill Berry, that music listeners can get excited about. It’s fun, personal, passionate, and past exploration into making mixtapes and all the records that inspired them. Ralph Malanga, the guitarist and vocalist of Cathedral Ceilings, wrote the song. Bill Berry, drummer for REM, is a reference point and touchstone for his mixtapes. Unfortunately, he is not present in the accompanying video, but Kenneth Close from Outer World plays the protagonist. His wife, Tracy Wilson, has an amazing record collection, which, along with their home, is featured in the video. As is the run-down, gritty locales with trains whizzing by and backdrops of graffiti-lined walls. Cathedral Ceilings features the collective talents Ralph Malanga on guitars and vocals, Nick D’Amore on drums, and Tom Diello on bass and backing vocals. “Bill Berry” is a searing and frenetic non-stop energetic track. The enticing single has hooks galore with driving, insistent rhythms, and ferocious guitar work. “Bill Berry” fits well within the pantheon and vein of punk, indie, and alternative rock music.
