CAT RIDGEWAY RETURNS WITH PSYCHADELIC NEW SINGLE “WHAT IF?”
Whoa, man! Some trips are soul-defining, as experienced by songstress Cat Ridgeway, who had something of a spiritual awakening after taking some gummies in the woods. This isn’t an endorsement of substance use, but it’s pretty cool that her time in a cabin inspired her new single “What If?”
Many of the world’s greatest musicians, like The Beatles and Panic! At The Disco, have drawn similar inspiration. However, Ridgeway’s unique twist brings a fresh voice to the table. Her introspective nature shines brightly in each twinkly banjo chord or stompy percussion line. Her song doesn’t sound like “Magical Mystery Tour” or “Nine In The Afternoon,” but a modern take on everything that came before her.
The cathartic build towards the end of the track is enigmatic, driving the song’s central message home. Ridgeway’s combination of folk and pop music has transpired into something beautiful—I’ve never heard anything like this. It offers the same vibes as lacing up my Doc Martens and taking Instax Mini 8 photos at the beach in the best way possible while providing new energy to modern music.
I especially love the question: “how many different people have I been?”
It’s easy to get caught up in daily hullabaloo. “What If?” by Cat Ridgeway suggests that getting lost a bit can be a good reminder to yourself that while fleeting, life has gorgeously profound moments.
