CARNIFEX UNLEASH NEW SINGLE “LICKING LOVE FROM A KNIFE” AHEAD OF UPCOMING ALBUM
California deathcore juggernauts Carnifex have returned with a shiny new single, “Licking Love From a Knife,” sliced fresh from their upcoming album, More Than Misery (out November 6 via Sumerian Records). And if there’s one thing they’re making crystal clear, it’s that they’re taking their sweet, sinister time before unleashing the chaos.
Honestly, this intro might set a new world record for death metal patience. Okay, maybe that’s a stretch, but you’ll be checking your watch before a single blast beat lands. Instead of diving headfirst into carnage, Carnifex opt for the scenic route, serving up a dramatic, cinematic build-up so epic you half expect a spaceship to land or an ancient wizard to deliver a monologue before the riffing even begins.
It’s a bold move for a band that’s spent years perfecting the dark art of sonic face-melting. The extended intro ratchets up the tension, making you wonder if you’ve accidentally wandered into a Broadway production. Then Carnifex remind you just who you’re dealing with. It’s delightfully theatrical, as if they’re setting the stage for a death metal opera rather than just another heavy-hitting track.
“Licking Love From a Knife” is your sneak peek at More Than Misery, Carnifex’s next chapter through Sumerian Records. For diehards, it’s a taste of the band’s moodier, movie-score ambitions, without sacrificing the musical doom that’s basically their brand.
Whether you’re here for the heavy or just morbidly curious how long Carnifex can tease before dropping the hammer, “Licking Love From a Knife” is worth a spin. Bring popcorn or maybe a stopwatch. That intro practically begs for both.
