BOBBY HALVORSON’S NEW SINGLE “JUMP START” IS A HIGHLY PERSONAL SONG THAT IS WRY AND SMART
“Jump Start” is indie alternative rock in the vein of Sparklehorse and Grandaddy. The introspective track provokes a feeling of tension and anxiety when listening to what Sacramento-based singer/songwriter Bobby Halvorson may be going through. Strangely, its frantic and upbeat arrangement brightly underscores the dark, sarcastic, conflicting emotions Halvorson is dealing with.
Halvorson sounds like he is struggling to make a dream come true and develop the necessary connections to make it happen. Perhaps a successful music career. However, he made inroads by playing shows in L.A. for over a decade with his art-rock band Brother, Sister. Plus, being an arranger for critically acclaimed artists such as Sondre Lerche, Tim Heidecker, and more. Not to mention his work with the legendary icon Van Dyke Parks. He is also renowned for performing in many renditions of Harry Nilsson’s The Point.
But in the bigger picture, this song, like the others on his upcoming album, Already Gone, expounds on “moving, moving away from your home, moving away from who thought you were and finding a new home that feels more true.” Bobby Halvorson is a talented and insightful songwriter who lets the listener read between the lines and draw their conclusions and perspectives in a more abstract way rather than spelling everything out easily and neatly.
