ALT-ROCK RAGERS STRANGE PINK DROPPED THEIR ANXIOUS DEBUT SINGLE “PENCIL CHEWER”

A band that dedicates their debut single “to the memory of Saint Agatha of Sicily” while claiming to have written it “while bathing in the blood of fascists” is to be trusted. Enter newcomers Strange Pink, whose debut single, “Pencil Chewer,” will have you staring at the ceiling contemplating life for weeks to come.

Something of a super group, Strange Pink has cultivated a song that blends classic punk rock sounds with modern concepts. They are politically driven, not hiding it with cloudy metaphors, instead allowing listeners to sit with harsh reality for about 4 minutes.

Plus, sonically, the group is tight; their instrumental feels the lyrics, establishing a creative chemistry that resonates through wired headphones. The group is a bit “softer” vocally, but not to a fault. The lead vocal is strong, sure, but the delivery adds a nice contrast to the gritty instrumental, calling back to a simpler time in terms of production, without veering towards antiquated.

Pencil Chewer” is for anxious avoidants full of political rage, and Strange Pink are brilliant narrators. Sure, it’s got some undertones of commentary, but it also speaks to human connection on a broader scale.

“Take a look in the mirror, you’re the same as me,” they assert—and they are probably right!
