FIRES IN THE DISTANCE ANNOUNCE CIRCADIAN PROMISE AND DROP “OF RADIANCE AND LEVITATION”

New England melodic death metal band Fires In The Distance are gearing up to release their third full-length album, Circadian Promise, on June 12 via Prosthetic Records, and they’ve kicked things off with a new single and video, “Of Radiance and Levitation.”

Coming off 2023’s Air Not Meant For Us, the band isn’t reinventing themselves here, but they are sharpening what already worked. The sound is still rooted in that cold, melancholic atmosphere they’ve built their name on, but it feels bigger now. More layered. More intentional.

“Of Radiance and Levitation” sets the tone pretty clearly. It starts patient, almost restrained, letting clean guitars and ambient textures breathe before everything opens up. When it hits, it’s not just heavy for the sake of it. There’s a weight to it that feels as much emotional as physical.

The band has talked about pushing their sound further this time around, especially with more melodic vocals and a wider range of expression. You can hear that here. It’s not just harsh vocals driving everything anymore. There’s more contrast, more dynamics, and it gives the track a different kind of pull.

This album also marks a new chapter for the band with the addition of vocalist and guitarist Brendan Hayter, joining founding songwriter and guitarist Yegor Savonin, bassist Craig Breitsprecher, and drummer Jordan Rippe. That shift seems to be part of why things feel a little more expanded. There’s a sense that they’re aiming for something more “complete” this time around, not just heavier.

Savinon described the track as a snapshot of what’s to come, and that checks out. The themes running through it touch on loss, healing, and pushing forward, and the music mirrors that. It moves between tension and release in a way that feels deliberate instead of forced.

The video, directed by Jayson Cessna, leans into that same atmosphere without overcomplicating things. It lets the song's mood carry most of the weight.
